From a former principal in 2008: I'm happy to introduce you to Peter Howell Elementary School, which was built in 1952. As a part of Tucson Unified School District, the school provides high quality educational experiences for both neighborhood and extended neighborhood kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Peter Howell:
  • Has approximately 356 students in 2007-08 from the surrounding neighborhood, as well as from our extended neighborhood which is located near Campbell Avenue and 34th Street (Holladay School neighborhood)
  • Offers 19 Highly Qualified Teachers, including an Arts Integration Specialist, Exceptional Education Teacher, P.E/Integration Specialist, Family Liaison and an Instructional Coach
  • Is an original OMA (Opening Minds through the Arts) school - providing research-based arts integration lessons to enhance achievement
  • Is recognized as a "Performing Plus" school by the state of Arizona
  • Has a 94.95% attendance rate
  • Enjoys a highly diverse student population
  • Is a Title I school based on percentage of students receiving free lunch
Many programs and services are offered to students and their families, including GATE (Gifted and Talented Education), Special Education, music and art integrated instruction, Family Resource Room, counseling, tutoring, and more.

Our PTA is extremely active with several exciting events throughout the year. We have a traditional Multicultural Dinner in the fall to celebrate our diverse cultures and a spring carnival that provides fun for the whole family. The funds raised are used for activities and materials that are not usually supplied through the TUSD budget.

We always love to have visitors and invite you to stop by to see the great things happening at Peter Howell!
